WHAT’S GOING ON OUT THERE AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU
Inflation nudges up again
Prices are still creeping higher- inflation is now at 3.8%. That means the weekly shop, fuel, and even flights are costing a bit more than last year. For start-ups, it’s worth keeping an eye on costs and making sure you’re not under-pricing your services.
Interest rates cut (but slowly)
The Bank of England has lowered interest rates to 4%. Good news if you’ve got a loan or are looking at finance- repayments may ease slightly. But the Bank is being cautious, so don’t expect rates to tumble quickly.
Mixed signals for businesses
Some reports say UK services firms are struggling, while others show overall business activity at its strongest in a year. For new businesses, this means opportunities are out there- but it’s important to stay flexible and ready to adapt.
Job market wobbling
Unemployment is edging up towards 5%, the highest since before the pandemic. For start-ups, this can be a mixed bag: hiring could get easier (more people looking for work), but customers may tighten their belts if job insecurity rises.
